I'd Rather Be Sailing

On days like today, when it's cold and dreary and generally wintery, I would much rather be in warm weather, sailing on open waters and enjoying a tropical drink (or four). I would happily travel back in time to two months ago.

Over Christmas my parents and I went on a cruise around the Eastern Caribbean on Holland America's Eurodam. The experience was truly fantastic. The ports of call were Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos, San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, USVI, and Holland America's private Island, Half Moon Cay. The weather was balmy and sunny the entire time, and the ship, well, the ship was ideal. Great food, room, activities, pools, tanning areas... what more can you really ask for?

First off, the room:

We had a Superior Verandah Suite on the 6th level, which was quite ideal for all intents and purposes. I would say the room had everything we needed: king size bed with a (surprisingly comfortable) convertible sofa bed, 10 foot wide walk-out balcony, marble-finished bathroom with whirlpool tub and double sinks, refrigerator and plenty of closet space. The view was absolutely the best part, though.

Who doesn't want to have breakfast outdoors with a view like this?!

Or, perhaps more importantly, dutifully do your stretches and exercises outdoors while completely ignoring the scenery? To each their own!

Once we woke up and were ready to be out and about, the three of us would ride the elevators...

up to the back of the Lido Deck. Many hours of tanning and relaxing passed here.

Daddy and I occasionally got some exercise in by sneaking up to the 12th level, the Observation Deck. No elevators run there, and there are very few signs, so it was quite isolated and therefore the perfect spot to tan. Also, the views were entirely worth the climb.

Afraid of heights?
The action kept going into the night! A piano bar, casino, lounges and plenty of live music were all I needed for a good time...

And finally, the ship itself was tastefully, subtly decorated for Christmas.

Looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow (and the next day, and the next), I really would rather be sailing.
